Nutrition has a bigger impact on our health than we realize. The food that we eat can either make us stronger or weaker.

What is nutrition?

Nutrition refers to what we eat. Nutrition can be divided into groups that are called nutrients. Nutrients include vitamins, minerals, sugar, carbohydrates, protein and fat. All nutrients are good for us. Too much of certain nutrients can also be bad for us. Too much sugar, for example, will lead to weight gain.

Nutritious food refers to food that has lots of the nutrients that we need (or don't get enough of) and less of the nutrients that we don't need (or get too much of). 

Spinach is a nutritious food. It has important vitamins and minerals which we need (like vitamins) and less of the nutrients that we don't need because we get enough of them already (like sugar).

What is health?

Health refers to the absence of deficiency, illness and disease. You are healthy if you do not have any health complications like cancer and if you get all the nutrients that you need every day. 

A healthy person has a strong immune system, plenty of good rest and enough natural energy. Nutrition is one of the most important ways to become a healthy person.

How does nutrition affect health?

Certain nutrients prevent the conditions that make us unhealthy. Spinach, for example, has lots of vitamin C that supports our immune system. It also has antioxidants that keep our cells clean from the damage that ultimately leads to long-term diseases like cancer.

Conclusion

We eat need to eat enough nutritious food every day. This includes fruit, vegetables, unprocessed meat, fish, eggs and dairy products like milk and yogurt. Variety is the best way to ensure that we give our bodies everything they need.
